AI ad creatives: a full campaign from one product photo

By Kas Bennemeer, creative director at Setless Productions

One product photo is enough to build a complete campaign. I start by turning that photo into a hero asset: one strong image where product, light and mood are right. From there I build a campaign world with fixed settings and characters, then translate it into variations per channel, per hook and per audience. The result is dozens of AI ad creatives for Meta, TikTok and your online shop, all clearly the same brand and ready to test.

Below you will find how that works, which formats you need and why several creatives outperform one perfect ad.

Why one product photo is enough for AI ad creative production

With a traditional shoot you pay per setting. If you want your product on a beach, in a kitchen and in a gym, you need three locations, a crew and several shoot days. Every extra variation costs time and money.

With AI ad creative production, your product photo is the source. The product stays exactly the same: logo, packaging, colours and text. What changes is the environment, the light, the composition and the format. That lets me deliver a set of images and videos in a few days rather than weeks.

Advertisers are moving fast. According to the IAB (July 2025), half of advertisers already use GenAI for video ads, and 86% use it or plan to. The expectation is that 40% of all ads in 2026 will be made with GenAI, and smaller brands are adopting it faster than large ones. Meta also aims to fully automate ad creation with AI by 2026, based on a product photo and a budget.

That does not mean every campaign turns out well by default. The difference is in the choices: which hook, which setting, which format, for which audience. The rest of this article is about those choices.

Step 1: the hero asset behind all campaign content

Everything starts with the hero asset. This is the best image of your product in the style of the campaign. I spend most of my time here, because every following shot uses this image as its reference.

What the hero asset needs:

  • The product matches the real product exactly, including logo and packaging text.
  • Light and colour fit your brand and your audience.
  • The composition works as a standalone ad and as the starting point for video.
  • There is space for copy or a CTA without covering the product.

I produce stills first for validation. Only once you approve the direction do I move on to animation and variations. That way no time goes into a direction that does not fit.

Step 2: the campaign world

A campaign world is the set of fixed elements that returns in every variation: two or three settings, a recurring character or model, a colour palette and a lighting style. It keeps your ads recognisable, even when you run twenty at once.

Without a campaign world you get loose images that have nothing to do with each other. With one, you build brand recognition, even in a test with many variations.

Ad formats per channel

Every channel asks for its own format and pace. An image that works in the Meta feed does not automatically work as a Reel. I make a version for each channel that belongs there.

Channel Format What matters
Meta feed 1:1 or 4:5 Product visible straight away, short copy, calm composition
Stories and Reels 9:16 Hook in the first second, space top and bottom for the interface
TikTok 9:16 Fast pace, native feel, movement from frame one
Online shop 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9 Product detail, lifestyle image, short loop on the product page

For 9:16 I account for the platform buttons and captions. Product and message sit in the centre so nothing disappears behind the interface.

Ad variations per hook and audience

Besides format, I vary two things: the hook and the audience.

The hook decides whether someone stops scrolling. Three hooks that often work:

  • Problem: show the problem your product solves.
  • Result: open with the end result and work backwards.
  • Detail: start with a close-up of texture, movement or packaging.

Per audience I adjust the setting and the character. A supplement for athletes is shown differently from the same supplement for people who want to sleep better. The product stays the same; the context shifts.

Example matrix: 3 hooks x 3 settings x 3 formats

This is what a campaign built from one product photo looks like. Three hooks, three settings and three formats give 27 variations.

Hook Setting Formats Variations
Problem Home, morning light 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Problem Outdoors, active 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Problem Studio, product focus 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Result Home, morning light 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Result Outdoors, active 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Result Studio, product focus 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Detail Home, morning light 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Detail Outdoors, active 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Detail Studio, product focus 4:5, 9:16, 1:1 3
Total 27

You do not have to launch everything at once. Start with the hooks in one format, see which performs best and scale that one to the other settings and formats.

Why testing several AI ads works

You cannot know in advance which ad will win. The image you like most is not always the one that brings the most clicks or sales. That is why you test.

Several creatives give you three advantages:

  • You find out faster which hook and setting work for your audience.
  • The Meta and TikTok algorithms get more material to find the right people.
  • You can replace tired ads without starting over, because the campaign world is already in place.

Most important: test one variable at a time. If you change hook, setting and format in one go, you will not know what made the difference. The matrix above makes that easy.

How many variations you need depends on your budget and channels. The packages on pricing show what each one includes.

What you supply for campaign content

You do not need to supply much:

  • One sharp product photo, ideally on a neutral background.
  • Your audience and the channels you advertise on.
  • Examples of ads you like or that already perform well, if you have them.
  • Your brand colours and logo if they are not on the product.

I handle the rest: concept, hero asset, campaign world and every variation. One round of feedback is included.

How Setless solves this

I build campaigns on ad formulas with a proven track record on Meta, TikTok and Instagram. First the hero asset, then the campaign world, then the variations per channel, hook and audience. Consistent, and ready to test.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really get a whole campaign from one product photo? Yes. One sharp product photo is enough to build a hero asset and create variations for different channels, hooks and audiences from it. The product stays identical to the real thing in every variation.

How many ad variations do I get from one product photo? That depends on the package. A matrix of three hooks, three settings and three formats already gives 27 variations. The packages are listed on pricing.

Which ad formats do I need for social? For the Meta feed you work with 1:1 or 4:5, for Stories, Reels and TikTok with 9:16. For your online shop you add product images and short loops.

Will my product look the same in every variation? Yes. Logo, text, packaging and colours stay exactly the same. I check every shot for product accuracy before delivery.

Why test several AI ad creatives instead of one good ad? You cannot know in advance which hook or setting will win. Several creatives help you find that out faster and give the algorithm more material to reach the right buyers.

How quickly do I get the campaign content? Within days rather than weeks. You first receive stills for validation, then the animations and variations.
